For a number of years LMS has provided courts with consultation and statistical analysis related to procedures and practices used to summon and select jurors.  We are normally retained to assess the extent of including bias arising from, the summoning process, and summons response rates.  The purpose of this analysis is to determine if jury composition is distorted by selection bias and if it is to explain why.

LMS analyzes the procedures and processes used to summon jurors in consultation with the jury commissioner’s office and prepares expert reports describing these practices and their consequences for the composition of juries in the jurisdiction under study.  We work with court administrators and their counsel and to explain to courts the impacts that various practices have on the composition of jury venires and juries.
